Some of the new rules coming into effect in British Columbia.

EXPERIENCE

Those in the province with experience behind the wheel will be seeing the biggest breaks on their premiums. Those who have superior driving records of up to 40 years of experience will get discounts. Those who have three or less years of experience will still pay premiums reflecting this fact.

MVA

The MVA, motor vehicle accident history, will start in 2017 and go until 2027 for the scan period. The scan period is the time of at fault accidents. Those who maintain a clean driving record for this decade will see their premiums drop even more.

OTHER DRIVERS

The primary driver of the motor vehicle will no longer be responsible for at fault accidents. The accident will reflect on the premiums of the driver and not the vehicle. All drivers must be accounted for on each motor vehicle.

Various accommodations will be made for those who do not drive with regularity and beginning drivers. ICBC holders can elect for unlisted driver protection and learner premiums. Both are designed to provide protection for the primary motor vehicle owner.

OTHER FEATURES

Automatic braking systems, now standard on most motor vehicles, crash prevention and those driven less than 5,000 km annually will see discounts.

All premiums will be calculated on $1,000.00 CAD and adjusted accordingly.
