Classical Music Composer Stephanie Ann Boyd to Present Talk on Music and Entrepreneurship

Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts has invited alumna Stephanie Ann Boyd (2009-2013) to give a lecture at the Auditorium Building on April 20th at 6pm in room 730. Boyd will speak on her life in classical music during the four years since graduation in a lecture entitled Two Feet Out the Door: a Tough Love, Get-Over-Yourself Guide to Engineering a Career Right Out of Music School. In the past year Boyd has given this talk at several Universities including University of Colorado at Greeley and University of Arkansas.

Chicago College of Performing Arts was originally founded in 1867 as the Chicago Musical College, and in the years since joining the other colleges at Roosevelt University, the faculty has become comprised mainly of members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago’s finest musicians. Music Composition faculty and Boyd’s former teachers include Dr. Kyong Mee Choi and Dr. Stacy Garrop. While at Roosevelt, Boyd’s music co-won the Chicago College of Performing Arts Vector Project on two consecutive years. The brainchild of famed Chicago conductor Cliff Colnot, the resultant recordings from the Vector Project garnered Boyd a contract with a well-known educational music publisher.

Boyd went on to earn a masters degree in music composition at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and now lives in Manhattan. She has an active career as a classical music composer; projects and commissions this season include the premieres of a bassoon concerto with soloist Andrew Marlin and the Cincinnati Soundbox Orchestra conducted by Alexander Colding Smith, a cello concerto with soloist Alan Toda Ambaras and Boston’s Eureka Ensemble Orchestra conducted by Kristo Kondakci, and a large co-commission involving 50 violinists in 45 countries. “It is an absolute joy to be able to come back to my alma mater and present a lecture on the work I’ve been doing in the four years since my graduation,” Boyd said. “I have fond and deep memories of my time here…many ideas and melodies of mine that went on to truly become something were hatched in the halls of Roosevelt University.”

Attendance to Boyd’s lecture is free and open to the public, however a government-issued ID must be presented at the lobby in order to enter the building. Room 730 is along the south side of the building. Arrive early – limited seating.
